 IT Development

The IT Development Task has two major objectives:

  • To develop a webportal and central information repository of NGOs in Pakistan
  • To develop a distance learning platform for NGOs in Pakistan

1. Social Enterprise Development Portal

A web portal is being constructed that not only provides organizational information about NGOs in Pakistan but will also act as a support medium for enlarging resource capacity and information sharing.

2. IT Based Distance Learning (Pilot Project)

Development of IT-based Distance Learning (DL) module is underway as an add - on feature on this portal, so that maximum number of NGO- officials can suffice themselves from the research oriented lectures on specified Social Sector Issues from the internet. The module will integrate a complete simulation of a training class with user simulated Quizzes, Assignments and both live and streamed lectures for the registered users of the NGOs in Pakistan.

Distance learning is not a new idea, but still very rare in Pakistan . The idea has been successfully implemented by the Virtual University and Allama Iqbal Open University already. Methods of distance learning range from simple correspondence courses and broadcast TV with reverse audio to specialized video conferencing tools, such as Proshare or Flashback, and Web-based courses. This training, conducted by leading experts in the field, will enable NGOs to train their personnel at reasonably low costs, without compromising their work schedule.

3. Disaster Management system

Once the development of Disaster Management System (DMS) is completed, it would serve as an instrumental decision support tool for disaster management teams. With the implementation of DMS, it would be able to collect all kinds of data pertaining to disaster prone areas and the resources available for rescue and rehabilitation. The use of DMS would be available online in real-time to the government, donors, agencies, NGOs, the general public and others who may need it during a disaster.
